And he shall separate him, and he shall place his portion with the hypocrites, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Mt 24:51)
καὶ διχοτομήσει αὐτὸν καὶ τὸ μέρος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ὑποκριτῶν θήσει· ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων.
et dividet eum partemque eius ponet cum hypocritis illic erit fletus et stridor dentium.
The punishment that befell the evil servant was extremely severe. Some earlier translations of the Holy Scripture even have it literal, that is, quartered (specifically, cut in half – διχοτομέω). After such a radical solution, it is difficult for someone to designate any place … in fact, it gives the possibility that it could even be many places.
However, it is worth remembering that Matthew wrote his Gospel to the Jews, and he liked to hide some content. In Aramaic, which was spoken in everyday life, the word נתה can be read in two ways. First as nittah which means to cut into pieces, or as nattah, which can be translated as to separate. So God, by a kind of excommunication, allows us to take responsibility for our actions. The evil servant not only is separated, but also has to spend time with hypocrites like himself. Everything we do matters.
