Village (κώμη kōmē)

And they went on to another village. (Lk 9:56)

καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς ἑτέραν κώμην.

Et abierunt in aliud castellum.

This other village may be the place where the Lord wants to find hospitality, a joyful welcome. The Greek root of the word leads to the act of laying down, which suggests resting, being at a feast. In the village, people know each other, and live in cooperation and harmony, as long as they are able to accept the One whose face is turned towards Jerusalem, i.e. where He departs, where He will Himself lie down on the Upper Room table, where He will become the Bread of Life for the life of the world, given into the hands of men.
