Immediately (παραχρῆμα parachrēma)

And He laid His hands upon her, and immediately she was straightened, and she glorified God. (Lk 13:13)

Certain issues, illnesses, struggles last a long time and keep us in bondage. A woman was bent over for 18 years, another woman suffered from loss of blood for 12 years, and a paralytic was tied to a mat for 38 years. The desired healing takes place immediately, without delay. An obvious gesture of God’s power. Saint Luke uses the word “immediately” most often in the New Testament, and it usually occurs in healing. Jesus does not put things off until tomorrow or next month. He is working right now, when I read the Gospel, when I meditate, when I sleep or wake up. Let the healing power of the Word of God penetrate us and let us be enveloped by the warmth of Jesus’ gestures and His good hands.
