To keep silence (ἡσυχάζω hēsychadzō)

But they kept silent. Yet truly, taking hold of him, He healed him and sent him away. (Lk 14:4)

οἱ δὲ ἡσύχασαν. καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος ἰάσατο αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέλυσεν.

At illi tacuerunt. Ipse vero apprehensum sanavit eum, ac dimisit.

There are different reasons for silence, therefore there are different types of silence. This time the accusers are silent in the face of the obvious truth and the clear meaning of Shabbat. God does not stop healing on Shabbat, because a free, saved, healed person becomes like a rest for the Creator. This was the complement of creation. There may occur another silence here, one that comes from admiration for God’s wisdom, power and love.
