And He said to them: Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Mt 4:19)
καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.
et ait illis venite post me et faciam vos fieri piscatores hominum.
Δεῦτε (ὀπίσω μου) means “Come on, here we go” (follow me). This first translation proposed by the late priest Remigiusz Popowski SDB may not be in common use today, but it perfectly reflects the meaning of the Greek word. A kind of urgency, as if marked by positive impatience, with a simultaneous indication of moving towards someone. We don’t have much time, and it seems we are a bit late in following Christ.
