And after they had gone away, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Rise up, and take the Boy and His mother, and flee into Egypt. And remain there until I tell you. For it will happen that Herod will seek the Boy to destroy Him. (Mt 2:13)
Ἀναχωρησάντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἰδού, ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ᾽ ὄναρ τῷ Ἰωσὴφ λέγων, Ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ φεῦγε εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἴσθι ἐκεῖ ἕως ἂν εἴπω σοι· μέλλει γὰρ Ἡρῴδης ζητεῖν τὸ παιδίον τοῦ ἀπολέσαι αὐτό.
qui cum recessissent ecce angelus Domini apparuit in somnis Ioseph dicens surge et accipe puerum et matrem eius et fuge in Aegyptum et esto ibi usque dum dicam tibi futurum est enim ut Herodes quaerat puerum ad perdendum eum.
When man’s wickedness is too strong, and we consciously become deaf to remorse, God allows us to fulfill our imaginations. However, the fact that He withdraws, or rather gives us space (ἀναχωρέω), does not mean that He is not there.
