And so, Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people, who had petitioned a king from him. (1Sm 8:10)
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה אֶל־הָעָ֕ם הַשֹּׁאֲלִ֥ים מֵאִתֹּ֖ו מֶֽלֶךְ׃
Dixit itaque Samuel omnia verba Domini ad populum, qui petierat a se regem.
Samuel listened to God first when he went to meet Him. He could only speak because he obeyed. His first experience of God speaking, when God did not let him sleep, ended with his confession: “Speak, for Your servant is listening.” Therefore, later, as we read, he spoke the words of God. Good hearing is open to the One who has the words of life.
