Flesh (בָּשָׂר ḇâśâr)

And all the tribes of Israel went to David in Hebron, saying: Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. (2Sm 5:1)

The confession of generations to David evokes Adam’s exclamation of surprise and delight when he sees the first woman. It not only expressed wonder at beauty but also signified unity. To have one body and one soul means to be in a unity that penetrates to the core of the person. Our body, which was woven by the hand of God, allows us to enter into contact with others, is unique, and has become a “sacrament” of presence.
From our Paschal perspective, the Church constantly confesses to Christ: We are Your flesh and bones. We belong to You.
