Joy (שִׂמְחָה simcha)

Therefore, David went and brought the Ark of God, from the house of Obededom, into the city of David with joy. (2Sm 6:12)

David feels joy in God’s presence. Carrying the Ark, which was identified with the presence of the LORD, he dances amidst singing and playing instruments (2 Sam 6:14). He is happy that the Lord is coming to him, to his city. In the Bible, joy is not just an emotion, a feeling that someone experiences in their heart, but it always finds some external expression. Someone who has experienced God’s presence and His action radiates joy and wants to express it to others. Biblical joy is therefore a manifestation of faith, a testimony that God is close and cares about me.
Today, I can reflect on my joy… What causes it, and how do I express it? Can I enjoy the PRESENCE of God and another man?
