House (בּית bayith)

Go, and say to My servant David: Thus says the Lord: Should you build a house for Me as a dwelling place? (2Sm 7:5)

David rightly notes that there is a certain disproportion between his cedar house and the Lord’s tent. Nowhere does the Lord forbid David from building a temple, but He draws his attention to something more important than the building. The house that the Lord will build for David is a family. From this house will come a descendant of David who will build a house in the Name of the Lord – Jesus. In Him dwelt all the fullness of the Deity.
