Christ set us free so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastened again to the yoke of slavery. (Ga 5:1)
Τῇ ἐλευθερίᾳ ἡμᾶς Χριστὸς ἠλευθέρωσεν· στήκετε οὖν καὶ μὴ πάλιν ζυγῷ δουλείας ἐνέχεσθε.
qua libertate Christus nos liberavit. State, et nolite iterum iugo servitutis contineri.
At first thought, freedom indicates freedom of movement. A free person goes wherever they want. However, freedom, which is a gift of Christ, enables us to be internally independent, and to escape the slavery of sin, entanglement, and dependence on the appearance of good. Freedom in the Lord Jesus and through Him can only fully develop in relationships. If freedom isolated us and separated us from the community, it would only be unfettered or wanton. Ultimately and in the worst case, it would paradoxically lead us to enslavement by ourselves.
