Handiwork (ποίημα poiēma)

For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has prepared and in which we should walk. (Eph 2:10)

Ipsius enim sumus factura, creati in Christo Iesu in operibus bonis, quæ præparavit Deus ut in illis ambulemus.

We measure human achievements by the size of works in crafts, art, and science. They testify to skill, imagination, and intellectual prowess. But we, as people, are also the work of a magnificent Creator. In the Latin tradition, God was referred to as Deus artifex, or “the Supreme Creator, the Artist.” Not only did He make us His work, but He also prepared a place and purpose for our lives. The good works we do have at their core the idea and trace of God’s wisdom, love, and power.
Look around today and discover the good and beautiful works begun by God, and He wants to involve you in continuing to create them with Him.
