And he said, “From foreigners.” Jesus said to him: “Then the sons are free. (Mt 17:26)
εἰπόντος δέ· ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων, ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· ἄρα γε ἐλεύθεροί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοί.
Et ille dixit: Ab alienis. Dixit illi Iesus: Ergo liberi sunt filii.
Freedom can be considered in two aspects: “freedom from…” and “freedom to…” The Lord Jesus introduces Peter to freedom in both dimensions. Henceforth, Peter is to be free from anxiety about money matters. The second area of freedom opens with the joy of being a son of the One Father. I am free to love.
