To perfect (τελειόω teleioō)

But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the charity of God is perfected. And by this we know that we are in Him. (1Jn 2:5)

One of the distinctive feature of love is that it does not stop at half-measures. In its internal dynamics it pursues the goal. The goal is to unite in mutuality. God reveals love through His word, which is not just a commandment. He Himself is Love. The perfection of love is manifested in the fact that it achieves its goal. The verb “to perfect” comes from the word goal (Greek τέλος telos).
